Hawaiian Turfgrass ready with Zeon Zoysia

Hawaiian Turfgrass announces that Zeon Zoysia turfgrass sod is ready for sale to homeowners for lawns, and for use on golf courses and sports fields in the state of Hawaii starting August 1, 2016. Zion Zoysia. The #1 selling zoysiagrass in America, began its journey to Hawaii in 2013 when Hawaiian Turfgrass was named the exclusive licensed sod producer in the state. From there Zeon Zoysia spent one year clearing the Hawaii Department of Agriculture’s Plant Quarantine before being planted on the Hawaiian Turfgrass sod farm in Mililani, O’ahu. Two years later, five acres of certified Zeon Zoysia is ready to be harvested and sold in Hawaii.

It took a long time but we are really excited to offer Zeon Zoysia turf to homeowners and Hawaii in general. It has that wow factor! It’s a fine bladed zoysia unavailable anywhere else in Hawaii. It will make people look twice. – Sean Fong, manager of Hawaiian Turfgrass

Zeon Zoysia requires less mowing than many other grasses available in Hawaii.

It’s a soft bladed barefoot grass like a bermudagrass or seashore paspalum, yet it’s a zoysia so you’re looking at mowing it every two-to-three weeks instead of every one-to-two weeks with bermudagrass and paspalum. Unlike the common variety of zoysiagrass, which is Emerald zoysia, Zeon Zoysia is fine bladed. It doesn’t clump. It gets less thatch, and it doesn’t scalp. – Sean Fong, manager of Hawaiian Turfgrass

Zeon Zoysia was developed by Texas-based Bladerunner Farms, the nation’s largest privately owned zoysiagrass research facility. The grass was licensed to Hawaiian Turfgrass by The Turfgrass Group.

In nationwide tests through NTEP (National Turfgrass Evaluation Program), Zeon Zoysia ranked #1 in turf quality. NTEP also confirmed that Zeon Zoysia produces far less thatch than other zoysiagrasses tested.

Zeon Zoysia also holds the distinction of being the grass chosen as the playing surface on the newly constructed golf course for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Benefits of Zeon Zoysia:

  • Versatile: Use for lawns, golf courses, sports fields, resorts
  • Adaptable: Thrives in a wide range of soil conditions
  • Drought tolerant: Less water requirements
  • Salt Tolerant: In salty environments, simply mow the grass and remove the clippings to remediate the soil
  • Easy Care: Less thatch than other standard zoysias
  • Shade Tolerant: Grows in full sun or moderate shade
