The Toro PrecisionSense 6000 patented system collects data such as soil moisture volumetric water content (VWC), salinity, compaction, turf vigor Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and topography. Data is stored in an onboard computer during the collection process and relayed to Toro for creation of GIS-referenced map images. Turf managers can then receive two types of reports – 1) a Precision Irrigation Audit, and/or 2) Precision Irrigation Management Zones.
The data collected by the Toro PrecisionSense unit is far more detailed and is collected in a more time- and cost-efficient manner than data gathered through manual irrigation audits. Most importantly, it helps identify what happens to irrigation water after application to the soil. PrecisionSense provides the necessary information to create a closed loop system of precise irrigation scheduling, water application, and real-time soil conditions to verify the highest level of precision resource management.
Precision Irrigation Management Zones identify soil variability for measuring irrigation effectiveness and these maps also provide soil conditions for accurately locating in-ground soil moisture sensors, such as Toro’s Turf Guard® wireless soil monitoring system, which can be integrated with the Toro® Lynx® central control system.
